Hello...my name is Phil Dayvault, Principal of DATUM ENTERPRISE, LLC, located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Since 2000, I have conducted independent, investigative research on various aspects of the Shroud of Turin, Related Relics and Sacred Art. Fortunately, I have visited numerous countries overseas conducting primary investigations and was privileged in 2002 to visit Turkey for a three-week extensive investigative research trip. Later, in 2009, I visited Rome for three weeks to conduct further investigations. These trips yielded some unique and newly discovered historical findings which will be highlighted on this website.
The SHROUD of TURIN, the traditional burial cloth of Jesus Christ, is either authentic, or not.
If authentic, it is the greatest and most important archaeological and informative religious object ever known to man, because it bears the actual Blood and Image of Jesus Christ. If not authentic, it is the most elaborate hoax ever perpetrated by man. As scholar John Walsh once said, "It is one or the other...there is no middle ground."
The Shroud, arguably the world's most-studied single object, has remained a mystery to science and scholarly research for centuries. Much has been learned about it over the years, but much still remains unknown. This investigative research endeavor has utilized, in part, my knowledge of the Shroud of Turin and its history gleaned over the years from following and studying the Shroud since 1973, and later serving as the director of a local research group. In addition, the forensic training and investigative experience I received while serving approximately eight years with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, in both former Special Agent and Physical Science Technician capacities, have also been fully adapted and utilized in this research. Throughout this endeavor, the precepts of the Scientific Method have been rigorously followed. Primary investigative research has been conducted on actual artifacts, photographs, full and quarter-sized copies of the Shroud and various other resources; including the reading of over 750 project-related books, over 6,000 useful websites, and devoting tens of thousands of hours to dedicated research, as well as the above-described, and other, research trips.
DATUM ENTERPRISE, LLC is striving to fulfill its mission through continued investigation into the Shroud of Turin, Related Relics and Sacred Art. On the totality of this and other evidence, I confidently believe the Shroud depicts an ancient image of Jesus Christ. But, it really does not matter what I believe...what matters most is if the evidence is believable. Also, it must be strongly emphasized…always worship the CREATOR, and not the object of creation. As a Protestant Christian, and a repentant sinner in need of a Risen Savior, my faith does not hinge on the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin. Rather, it is BECAUSE of my Christian faith in the Risen Lord that I may even consider the possibility of the existence and authenticity of the Shroud. After all, we have President George Washington's teeth, and King Tut's death mask. Could the Shroud of Turin possibly be actual extant evidence of the GREATEST event in human history, i.e., the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ? Examine the evidence and decide for yourself!
The "FACE of the GOD-Man" article (see: "The Keramion" article) describes the discovery of a small mosaic and the forensic conclusion that it served as the model of numerous ancient, classical depictions of Jesus Christ. The ISA Mosaic Tile essentially depicts His humanity, as well as establishes the "time frame" of the Shroud to, or near, the AD1st Century. It is derived from the Face of the Man of the Shroud of Turin.
I have often said that one of the main differences between a criminal investigator and an investigative researcher is that one carries a gun, and the other one, ostensibly, does not. Otherwise, these two professions are very similar in many ways, one of which is to seek the truth. By seeking valid answers to the critical investigative elements of “WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY, HOW and HOW MUCH”, one is able to better "see" the overall picture and further “connect the dots”; thus, advancing known research data. Relevant facts can be established through the forensic examination of available circumstantial, documentary and physical evidence. Coupled with the tenets of the Scientific Method and/or Historical Method, one is further able to draft an appropriate hypothesis, conduct specific tests, and possibly determine viable, testable and repeatable results. This has been the proven and successful approach to the investigations that I have conducted in all of my endeavors.

The Shroud of Turin was exhibited in a special LIVE televised exposition for only the second time in its history, as directed by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, and shown worldwide via RAI Uno TV, the Italian state television. On December 4, 2013, the Papal Custodian of the Shroud, Bishop Cesare Nosiglia, Archbishop of Turin, announced that the Shroud will be publicly exhibited in 2015, in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Turin, Italy. More recently announced, the specific dates of public exhibition are from April 19 to June 24, 2015. UPDATE: A successful 67-day Shroud exhibition was held in Turin, Italy, with over 2 million pilgrims visiting, including His Holiness, Pope Francis!
